The invention relates to an electro-optical circuit, in which an optical waveguide (24) is embedded in a circuit carrier (11). According to the invention, electro-optical assemblies (14) having carrier components (15) are provided, on which carrier components an electro-optical transmitter (17) or an electro-optical receiver (18) is mounted. According to the invention, said electro-optical assemblies are mounted on the circuit carrier (11) in such a manner that the optical elements (17, 18) can be aligned with the optical axis (26) of the optical waveguide (24), and therefore beam deflection towards the mounting side (12) of the circuit carrier (11) is not necessary. This simplifies mounting considerably, wherein only the tolerance requirements for mounting electronics have to be taken into account. The invention also relates to a method for mounting said electro-optical circuit.
