A small gearbox (1) for adjustment and control devices in motor vehicles has axially movable gears (5, 7). One of the gears (7) has an alignment section (9),with which he crosses an intervention section (8) on the front. In a mounting position, the gears (5, 7) are moved to a position where the intervention section (8) faces one front of the other gear (5). Then the gearbox (9) showing the alignment section (7) is turned into the other gear (5) and the gears (5, 7) are aligned with each other. In one last operation, the gears (5, 7) are moved into an operating position in which they are operating above the full range.
