This method (100) is intended for determining a cooling solution for an electrical cabinet (1) in which are housed a plurality of electrical functional units (22) arranged along a separation plane (P). It is implemented by computer and comprises the following steps: - characterization (120) of a need for cooling of the electrical cabinet (1), - deduction (130) of a distribution coefficient of the need for cooling between a first and second thermal zones (E1, E2) of the electrical cabinet (1) separated from each other by the separation plane (P), - selection (140) of a cooling system (30) to cool the electrical cabinet (1), - choice (150) of an arrangement of the cooling system (30) on at least one outer wall (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15) of the electrical cabinet (1), and- evaluation (160, 170) of the need to form in a lower half of the separation plane (P) a lower air circulation opening (29A) and, if necessary, of the position and of the dimensions of this lower air circulation opening (29A)
