To provide an optical observation device and an imaging method that enable a simple configuration to acquire images focused on an observed body in a short time.SOLUTION: An optical observation device comprises: an arrangement unit 1 that arranges an observed body D; an image formation optical system 2 that image-forms observation images of the observed body D; an image pick-up element 3 that can capture the observation image; a movement unit 4 that can move at least one of the arrangement unit 1 and the image formation optical system 2; and a control unit 5. The control unit 5 comprises: movement means that moves, by the movement unit 4, the at least one of the arrangement unit 1 and the image formation optical system 2 along an optical axis direction of the image formation optical system 2 from a movement start position to a movement end position; imaging means that captures a plurality of observation images by the image pick-up element 3 in the movement in the optical axis direction; and selection means that selects an image satisfying a reference value as a focus image from the plurality of images.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
