The present invention addresses the problem of providing: a compact observation optical system having high resolution; an observation imaging device and an observation imaging system that include the observation optical system; an image forming lens system; and a method for adjusting an observation optical system. In order to solve the problem, the observation optical system according to the present invention comprises, in order from an observation subject side, an objective lens system G1 and an image forming lens system G2, and forms an observation subject image, which is formed by the objective lens system G1, onto an image plane IP of an imaging element by the image forming lens system G2, the observation optical system satisfying predetermined conditions.
