To easily detect a crack generated in a steel material.SOLUTION: A current measuring device 10 measures the value of a current flowing through a target steel 100 imparted tensile stress while performing hydrogen charge immersed in the electrolyte aqueous solution 30, and a crack scrutiny device 20 uses the value of the measured current and determines that there is a crack in the target steel 100 if the amount of change in the current flowing through the target steel 100 exceeds the threshold value. A crack sensing device 20 determines that there is a crack in the steel if it exceeds the absolute value of the threshold and that there is a break if the rate of change in the amount of change in the current is less than the negative value of the absolute value of the threshold value.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
