Apparatus and method for increasing the volume of an atmospheric pressure plasma jet

An apparatus and method for increasing and directing the spatial volume of an atmospheric pressure plasma jet. One or more additional gas streams are introduced to intersect the plasma jet. As the plasma jet interacts with these additional gas flows, the direction of propagation of the plasma jet changes and the plasma expands into the volume determined by the additional gas flow, thus increasing the volume and effective surface area of the plasma jet. On the other hand, the increase in power necessary to promote the increase in plasma volume increases and decreases non-linearly with respect to the increase in volume. [Selection] Figure 2A
