An ironing plate (100) is attached to a friction stir welding apparatus in such a manner that the ironing plate (100) surrounds an outer peripheral portion of a rotating tool (5) and does not rotate together with the rotating tool (5), an inside diameter of a portion of the ironing plate (100) into which the rotating tool (5) is inserted is larger than the diameter of the rotating tool (5), and a material inflow path through which an excessive material of two metallic plates (1, 2) flows in is formed between the ironing plate (100) and the rotating tool (5) when the ironing plate (100) is disposed to surround the outer peripheral portion of the rotating tool (5).
