To provide a magnetic recording device having a graphene protection film having a single atomic thickness and a manufacturing method of the same.SOLUTION: A magnetic recording device 1 includes a substrate 100, an intermediate layer 101 arranged on the substrate, a magnetic recording layer 106 arranged on the intermediate layer, and a graphene protection film 108 arranged on the magnetic recording layer. The graphene protection film 108 includes at least one layer of a graphene single-atom layer that is a sheet-shaped single-atom layer of a sp2-bonded carbon atom. A transition layer 107 is inserted between the graphene protection film 108 and the magnetic recording layer 106.
