PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polymer having a lactone ring structure in the main chain (lactone ring-containing polymer), that does not exist in the prior art.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing lactone ring-containing polymer by allowing an elimination reaction of protecting group against a copolymer (C) having, as a constitutional unit, a unit (A) derived from a propenoic acid ester in which a hydroxyl group protected by a protective group is bonded to a carbon atom at the 2-position and a unit (B) derived from a (meth)acrylic acid ester, and a cyclization reaction between unit (A) and unit (B) to proceed, and produce a polymer with lactone ring structure in the main chain.SELECTED DRAWING: None
