PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system that precisely recognizes vehicle information while preventing erroneous detection of a vehicle.SOLUTION: A vehicle information recognition system includes: a vehicle detection device for detecting a vehicle; a vehicle information acquisition device for acquiring vehicle information, i.e. information on the vehicle; and a recognition device for recognizing the vehicle information on the basis of the vehicle information acquired by the vehicle information acquisition device. The vehicle detection device detects a vehicle on the basis of passage of an object in a prescribed region including a higher position than a bumper of the vehicle. If the vehicle detection device determines that the vehicle has passed, the recognition device recognizes vehicle information on the vehicle by using information acquired by the vehicle information acquisition device when the vehicle and the vehicle information acquisition device are located at a prescribed positional relation.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
