PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface damage detection device with which it is possible to efficiently inspect the presence of damage on a surface to be inspected and indicate signs of damage irrespective of the state of the surface and an inspection range of the surface.SOLUTION: Provided is a surface damage detection device 10 comprising a laser line light source 12 for irradiating the surface of an inspection object 20 with a laser beam in line form, a laser sensor 14 for grasping a changing locus shape of the laser beam on the basis of the shape of surface irregularities in the laser beam irradiation range of the surface, and control means 18 for converting the locus shape of the laser beam obtained via the laser sensor 14 into a gradation change and generating a surface shape image, the control means 18 extracting a region where the gradation becomes indefinable due to an absence of the locus of the laser beam in the surface shape image, and determining that a through-hole exists in the extracted region when there is, in the periphery of the region, a local change of the gradation centering around the region.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
