the present invention reports the effect of centraterin against tumor cell through death by apoptosis, induction of the production of reactive oxygen species (ros) and cytostatic activity. the centraterine molecule found in eremanthus crotonoides belongs to the class of sesquiterpene lactones (lss) and has in its structure an alkylating center that is capable of inducing toxicity in tumor cells and not causing toxicity in non-tumor cells (vero), demonstrating the specificity of molecule. the study of centraterin in leukemia cells makes this work unprecedented, namely that this molecule was obtained from a restinga plant and had never been studied against leukemia cells. the present invention is in the field of biotechnology, biology, medicine, biomedicine, pharmacy, chemistry and pharmaceutical industry.
