a method for reducing power in a system is provided in accordance with aspects of this disclosure. the system includes a chip, and a volatile memory. the method includes entering a resting state, and leaving the resting state. entering the idle state includes placing the volatile memory in a self-updating mode, where the volatile memory stores one or more binary images and the volatile memory is fed into the idle state, and collapsing multiple power supply tracks on the chip. Exiting the idle state includes restoring power to the multiple power supply tracks on the chip, removing volatile memory from auto-update mode, and running one or more binary images on one or more subsystems on the chip.
