methods are revealed that assist in the diagnosis and evaluation of a human individual who has suffered or may have suffered a head injury, such as mild, moderate or severe traumatic brain injury (tbi), or moderate to severe by detecting cardiac troponin levels i (ctni) and one or more early biomarkers that are not ctni, such as ubiquitin carboxy-terminal hydrolase l1 (uch-l1), glial fibrillar acid protein (gfap), or a combination thereof, in biological samples taken from a human individual at points in time within about 24 hours of the injury after the individual has suffered or may have suffered a head injury.
