摘要
The inhomogeneous transmutation detector (ITMD) is a new type of neutron detector, the construction of which is based on the separation of the process of preparation of ultra pure substrate (matrix, substrate) and the process of preparation of the starting (target) nuclide. The starting nuclide is introduced into the pure substrate in monoisotopic form by a suitable physical or chemical method, e.g. by ion implantation, or is applied to the pure substrate in the form of a continuous thin layer or a discontinuous microstructure or nanostructure. After irradiating the ITMD in the measured radiation field, the detector is evaluated using an analytical method that is able to measure depth concentration profiles with high sensitivity (better than ppm). The fluence and, if applicable, the neutron spectrum are determined from the measured concentration profiles. ITMDs can achieve higher sensitivity than previously described transmutation detectors and, in addition, have less induced activity after irradiation.
