A composite membrane comprising a micro-fibre thermoplastic layer of a mixture of polyethylene and polypropylene and a nanofibre layer of a polymer selected from the group consisting of polyamides, polyurethanes, polyureas and mixtures of them, which together form a laminate, and a polymer deposited on the fibres and containing chiral monomer units derived from trans- 1,2-diaminocyclohexane and achiral monomer units derived from a polyhydric achiral carboxylic acid chloride and 1,3-diaminobenzene, the polymer forming the outer layer of the membrane. The solution also describes the use of a composite membrane for chiral separations, and a method of preparing this membrane. A process for enriching liquid mixtures of enantiomers or solutions of mixtures of enantiomers by one enantiomer, or for separating enantiomers, and the apparatus for carrying out this process are described.
