A method of producing water suitable for irrigation, which includes supplying pretreated water to an electrodialysis device, treating pretreated water in an electrodialysis device by selectively removing one or both of the following types of particles: monovalent anionic particles and monovalent cationic particles from pretreated water, simultaneously holding one or both of the following types of particles: multivalent anionic particles and multivalent cationic particles, resulting in a treated water stream having a lower ratio of the number of monovalent ions to the number of multivalent ions than in pre-treated water, and the feed of treated water to the system distribution of water for irrigation.
