The present invention discloses a manufacturing process for producing target materials (17) for use in a laser ablation process and allowing for a more efficient coating process by admixing the target material with a specially formulated additive suspension (12, 13). The suspension (14) formed by the additive (12), the raw materials (11) and the liquid (13) is heated and then further sintered to produce a solid body of target material (17). The body (17) produced in this way can advantageously be used as a target for the laser ablation process.
