The measuring step comprises measuring a light intensity, a light wave length and/or a pulse duration of an electroluminescence phenomenon occurring in the field control part and/or a discharge phenomenon occurring in the field control part with an apparent charge of less than 5%. The measuring step of the mechanical size comprises measuring a pressure, a voltage, a deformation, a size characterized by an oscillation and/or a size characterized by a sound event. The method is performed during an operation of a high voltage device. The step of estimating the aging state of the insulation comprises: a sound pressure of the sound event occurring in the insulation; a sound frequency of sound event occurring in the insulation; a sound duration of the sound event occurring in the insulation; an integral light intensity of the light signal generated in the insulation; a fluctuation of the light intensity of the light signal generated in the insulation; and a length of a partial discharge sapling in the insulation. The method further comprises: detecting the partial discharge phenomenon in the insulation; detecting the electroluminescence phenomenon in the insulation; and issuing (1500) an alert if the aging condition of the insulation exceeds a predetermined threshold value. An independent claim is included for a high voltage device for receiving a high voltage cable.
