A method of operating a building management system (10) to provide control of a building in response to the detection of an item (52, 60) for a user to carry, comprising: a) wirelessly detecting an item (52, 60) to carry; b) identifying a unique user who uses the item (52, 60) to carry; c) determining the location of the item (52, 60) to be worn by a unique identified user inside or outside the building; d) for an identified unique user approaching a building entrance or located within the building, based on a user profile for an identified unique user and the location of the item to wear of an identified unique user, controlling at least one of the group of: a building access control system, a building alarm system, one or more building lights and temperature values of one or more areas of the building; e) in response to the single user issuing a request for the location of a second item to carry from a second unique user, providing the request to additional building management systems, f) identifying whether the second item to carry is in or near any of the additional building management systems (10), g) informing the single user of the location of the second item to wear that is in or near one of the additional building management systems; and h) controlling the devices when entering and leaving the areas by article (52, 60) to carry the identified unique user within the building based on the user's profile, the location of a unique identified user and the user's voice commands unique identified.
