The present invention provides algorithm-basedmolecular assays that involve measurementof expression levels of genes from a biologicalsample obtained from a kidney cancer patient.The present invention also provides methods of obtaininga quantitative score for a patient with kidneycancer based on measurement of expressionlevels of genes from a biological sample obtainedfrom a kidney cancer patient. The genes may begrouped into functional gene subsets for calculatingthe quantitative score and the gene subsets maybe weighted according to their contribution to cancerrecurrence.
