The present invention relates to a pecking block for birds and a method ofproducing the same. The pecking block comprises: a filler material comprisingdiatomaceousearth or a combination of diatomaceous earth and a clay-based material ormineral; a wettingagent; and optionally, one or more additives selected from the groupconsisting of (a) one ormore mold inhibitors, (b) one or more binding agents, (c) one or more coloringagents, (d) oneor more scenting agents; and (e) a combination thereof.
