The invention concerns a mechanical seal device (1) with a mechanical seal(10) whichcomprises a dry-running protection device (20), the dry-running protectiondevice (20) having atleast one microsystem (21) which outputs a digital measured value (W), themicrosystem (2)being arranged adjacent to the mechanical seal (10) and/or on and/or in themechanical seal(10). The measured value (W) makes it possible to protect the mechanical seal(10) fromoverloads. Furthermore, the invention concerns a pump device (100) with such amechanicalseal device (1), the mechanical seal (10) being arranged in a shaft passage(102) and sitting ona pump shaft (103). Furthermore, the invention concerns a method of operatingthis pumpdevice (100) in which the speed of a drive motor (105) of the pump shaft (103)is adapted on thebasis of the digital measured value (W) of the microsystem (21).
