FLASH BANG DIVERSIONARY DEVICE

A flash bang device (10) encloses an electrical circuit (18) and power supply (22) in one compartment (12) and one or more chemical agents in a cartridge (14) that detachably mounts to the compartment. The compartment is preferably ruggedized so that it can be reused with multiple cartridges after multiple uses. To facilitate such reuse, a ruggedized electrical coupling (29, 71) is provided between the compartment and the cartridge. In one implementation, the cartridge comprises at least two reservoirs (44) that segregate components of a binary or tertiary explosive. Frangible corks (67) arranged in the reservoirs (44) facilitate mixing and expulsion of substantially all of the chemical agents from the cartridge before a flame front ignites the chemical agents. The electrical circuit includes both analog and digital delay elements, and runs safety check, detonation, and render-safe routines. If the safety check fails, a digital controller (21) blows a fuse (31) to disable the flash bang device.
