This electric-powered vehicle drive system comprises: an internal combustion engine; a generator motor that is disposed so as to be capable of generating electricity by receiving power from the internal combustion engine; and a travel motor that is disposed so as to be capable of being driven by the electricity generated by the generator motor. This electric-powered vehicle drive system is configured such that while the internal combustion engine and drive wheels are detachably connected via a first clutch, the travel motor and the drive wheels are detachably connected via a second clutch that is different from the first clutch, thereby allowing switching between a series-hybrid mode in which the vehicle is caused to travel by using the travel motor as a drive source and transmitting power of the travel motor to the drive wheels and an engine direct connection mode in which the vehicle is caused to travel by using the internal combustion engine and/or the generator as a drive source and transmitting power of the drive source to the drive wheels. If, at the time of the mode-switching accompanied by deceleration from the engine direct connection mode to the series-hybrid mode, the rotation synchronization or engagement of the second clutch on the engagement side is not completed before decelerating to a predetermined vehicle speed, the first clutch on the disengagement side is released before the engagement of the second clutch is completed.
