The invention relates to microwave technology, and more particularly to waveguide-type coupling devices where the waveguide consists of two coupled lines, and can be used in a variety of wireless devices as a fundamental component of thin-film integrated high-frequency assemblies, such as dividing/summing devices, microwave power amplifiers, couplers, radio frequency multiplexers, phase shifters, filters, etc. The claimed invention achieves the technical result of providing more efficient use of the useful area of a dielectric substrate, reducing the overall dimensions of the device, and providing a wider working frequency band. The technical result is achieved in that a spiral ultra-wideband microstrip quadrature directional coupler comprises two electromagnetically coupled microstrip transmission lines configured in the form of a planar double-ended spiral, said transmission lines being disposed on a dielectric substrate, the opposite side of which is partially or completely metallized or is suspended above a metallic surface. The coupler is characterized in that the number of turns of the double-ended spiral is greater than one, one spiral runs in the opposite direction to the other about a common centre, and the gaps between the coupled transmission lines of the coupler, configured in the form of a double-ended spiral in which one spiral runs in the opposite direction to the other about a common centre, and also the transverse dimensions of said transmission lines vary from one region to another.
