Microstrip 3 dB Quadrature Directional Coupler with a High Degree of Miniaturization

In this work, modeling of a coupler device is carried out, which has significantly smaller dimensions in comparison with the traditional design. Miniaturization was carried out by replacing the quarter-wave segment with an artificial transmission line, consisting of a micro-line line and an idle stub connected to it. The proposed topology is technically realizable and does not take much time to optimize it. One of the classical FR-4 microwave materials, with a permittivity ε = 4.4 and a thickness h = 1 mm, acts as the substrate material. It is also worth noting that the proposed design turned out to be 80% less, compared with the design in the traditional design.
