The invention relates to a method for actuating a heat source (100, 140) for a component (130) of an exhaust section of a drive (100) of a motor vehicle. The method has the steps of (a) providing (S103) information on a future travel route of the motor vehicle; (b) ascertaining (S106, S107) the time sequence of a plurality of temperature values in the component (130) within a specified future period of time, the process of ascertaining the time sequence being based on the provided information; (c) determining (S108, S109, S110, S111) a point in time within the period of time on the basis of the ascertained time sequence, wherein one temperature value of the plurality of temperature values assigned to the point in time should satisfy a specified criterion; and (d) actuating (S112) the heat source (100, 140) prior to the point in time such that the temperature value satisfies the specified criterion at the point in time.
