According to the invention, a method is provided for preparing, in particular for assembling and packing, ingredients for at least one dish. This method comprises the following steps: - a reading-in step in which ordering data for a customer are read in, said ordering data comprising at least recipe data for the ingredients contained in the dish, and customer data; - an assigning step in which at least one ingredient container is assigned to predefined customer data; - a conveying step in which the ingredient container is conveyed to a transportation apparatus of a packaging line; - a positioning step in which at least one ingredient container is positioned in the region of a sorting station of the packaging line by means of the transportation apparatus, said sorting station having at least two ingredients or three or four or more ingredients held ready in corresponding ingredient compartments; - an indicating step in which it is indicated whether the ingredients are contained in the recipe data, by means of corresponding indicators of the ingredient container and the ingredient compartments; - a sorting step in which, if the ingredients are contained in the recipe data, the corresponding ingredient(s) of the sorting station are sorted into the ingredient container; - repeating and carrying out the positioning step, the indicating step and the sorting step until all ingredients contained in the recipe data are located in the ingredient container.
