In accordance with the present invention the soft landing is achieved via the open loop control of the electromagnetic actuator (2). The actuation system (1) comprises a control unit (5) which controls at least one electromagnetic actuator (2). Said control unit (5) does not rely on sensor data regarding the position of the armature (3) to achieve soft landing. As the invention provides an actuation system (1) that achieves soft landing via the open loop control of the electromagnetic actuator (2) by the control unit (5) the use of sensor data is not needed.
