A database-driven method for positive evaluation of thermal runaway safety of a traction battery. The method comprises: obtaining thermal characteristic parameters by means of performing a thermal characteristic test on multiple battery materials respectively; performing, based on the thermal characteristic parameters, a reaction kinetics analysis on the multiple battery materials respectively to build a battery material thermal runaway characteristic database; selecting, from the battery material thermal runaway characteristic database, different battery materials to form a battery cell model; and finally, evaluating thermal runaway characteristics of the battery cell model. Based on a battery material thermal runaway characteristic database, thermal characteristic parameters of different battery materials are obtained, and thermal runaway characteristics of a traction battery are evaluated and predicted where the battery is not wholly assembled. The evaluation method improves traction battery safety design efficiency, saves on the research and development cost of the battery, and has an important practical value and guiding significance for the safety design and prevention and control of the traction battery for an electric vehicle.
