The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating brain injury, comprising an osteopontin protein fragment as an active component. A peptide consisting of an amino acid sequence registered in sequence number 1 of the present invention reduces cerebral ischemia volume in a MCAO rat model, alleviates motor function impairment and neurological defects, and inhibits LPS-induced inflammatory response in microglia, thereby being able to be usefully used as a composition for preventing, treating or alleviating brain injury.
