Disclosed is an automatic cloud amount observation method using a whole-sky image. The method includes: a step in which an image conversion part converts an RGB sky image by photography time slot into a binary sky image, and an observation window creation part creates an observation window with a denoised sky image; and a step in which an image merge part merges the obtained image with the observation window and an RGB color analysis part analyzes RGB color components with the image normalized through an image normalization part, a CMYK color conversion part performs CMYK color conversion with the analyzed RGB color components, and a feature map creation part creates a feature map by calculating data of the RGB color components and the CMYK color-converted components, and then, the feature map is converted into a gray map and a binary image. According to the present invention, the probability of an error caused by a difference in the visual measurement of cloud amounts between individuals, an issue about mismatching between a visual measurement result and a result of measurement with an artificial limit on an automatic observation area, and the limitation of professional manpower supply for every observatory can be overcome. Moreover, the present invention is capable of preventing the occurrence of scattering depending on a route of the light of the sun subordinate to the position of the sun and the physical shape of a cloud in an RGB color space as well as incomplexity and inconvenience caused when variables to be classified have to be necessarily added.
