In addition, the present invention provides a pharmaceutical composition and a health functional food composition for preventing or treating herpes virus infections, comprising Tetragenococcus halophilus, a culture thereof, or a lysate thereof. The compositions may further comprise a prebiotic compound. Tetragenococcus halophilus produces lactate, and the lactate can be converted to short-chain fatty acids in the body, such as butyrate, and can regulate the expression of activation molecules in dendritic cells, and thus can effectively prevent and treat Behcet′s disease or herpes virus infections.
