The present invention relates to a composition comprising a plant extract of the genus Fraxinus as an active ingredient for preventing, alleviating, or treating a sleep disorder. The plant extract of the genus Fraxinus of the present invention has an effect of alleviating a sleep disorder by increasing mRNA expression levels of calretinin, neuropeptide Y, GAD65, and GAD67 in an animal model with a stress-induced sleep disorder, and thus can be advantageously used as a material for a health functional food or medicine for preventing, alleviating, or treating a sleep disorder.
