The present invention relates to a multiple-vote symbol-flipping (MVSF) decoding method for nonbinary LDPC codes. According to the present invention, the MVSF decoding method suggests a criterion for determining the number of variable nodes sending two candidate symbols to each inspection node on every repetitive decoding process. According to the present invention, the MVSF decoding method finds a symbol having the largest message to all the variable nodes and a symbol having the second largest message and calculates a message difference between the symbols, and then, transmits the symbols to a connected inspection node only when the message difference is smaller than a specific threshold value. According to the present invention, the MVSF decoding method suggests a method of adaptively selecting a threshold value about a message difference depending on the number of repetitive decoding times. Consequently, the threshold value is determined with a function of the number of repetitive decoding times. According to a computer experiment result, a nonbinary LDPC code decoded through the suggested method has better error-rate performance than an existing decoding method.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2020
