In at least one embodiment, an embedded Linux system is provided. The Linux system includes a memory, a system on a chip (SoC), and a first circuit. The SoC device includes a memory and is programmed to process at least a reference signal representing unwanted audio content and a measurement signal representing measured audio data in a listening environment. The first circuit is programmed to receive a reference signal and a measurement signal. The first circuit is further programmed to prevent time misalignment between the reference signal and the measurement signal caused by one or more software layers of the Linux system by merging the reference signal with the measurement signal and providing the combined system input to the SoC device.
