The present invention relates to a system and a method for determining a design load value of a ship in waves, which can accurately determine a design value of a hull load and can be applied to new types of ships as well as existing ships. According to the present invention, the method for determining a design value of a load of a ship in waves includes: instead of defining a design wave, analyzing probabilistic statistical characteristics of various parameters of waves affecting a structural load, then selecting waves occurrence scenarios through a sampling technique, for each of the selected scenarios; performing analysis of ship motions and analysis of load caused by waves; creating a curve of probability of wave exceedance of the hull load based on the resu and defining the design value of the hull load from practically acceptable reference values in the curve of probability of wave exceedance, that is, the as-low-as-reasonably-practicable (ALARP) values.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2020
