The control device of the Miller cycle engine 10 includes the control unit. The electronic control unit 50 is configured to execute an early closing Miller cycle operation mode that controls the variable actuation valve mechanism 38 so that the intake valve 36 is closed before the intake bottom dead center. The electronic control unit is configured to execute a decomp mode of controlling the variable actuating valve mechanism such that the intake valve closes later than the intake bottom dead center when the engine is started. The electronic control unit is configured to execute the early closing Miller cycle operation mode after the end of the decomp mode. The delayed closing amount of the intake valve with respect to the intake bottom dead center used in the decomp mode is the intake air with respect to the intake bottom dead center when the closing timing of the intake valve is made the fastest by the variable actuating valve mechanism. It is greater than the early closing amount of the valve.
