FIELD: medicine.;SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method for improving stool consistency in a patient with irritable bowel syndrome with predominant diarrhea, including oral introduction of ondansetron tablet with bimodal release containing: a core comprising hypromellose in which the first amount of ondansetron or an equivalent amount of its salt and anhydrous sodium citrate are dispersed, wherein the latter is in an amount sufficient to form a hardening peripheral boundary of hypromellose when exposed to an aqueous medium, thereby limiting the release rate of ondansetron from the core; a first non-functional insulating sheath surrounding the core and containing hypromellose; and immediately releasable drug layer surrounding first insulating shell and comprising hypromellose and second amount of ondansetron or equivalent amount of its salt dispersed therein, where the tablet provides ondansetron release with immediate subsequent prolonged release of ondansetron with kinetics of zero order, where there is no delay in release of ondansetron from the tablet, and complete release of ondansetron from the tablet provides its action for at least 16 hours.;EFFECT: disclosed are solid dosage forms of ondansetron with prolonged release for treating symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.;10 cl, 28 dwg, 50 tbl, 24 ex
