A model module 10, which is set up for coupling to a magnetic or magnetizable object 10A, 10B, 10C under the action of magnetic force, comprises a base body 20 made of a non-magnetizable material, which has at least one contact surface 21, on which at least two magnetic receptacles 22 are provided, and at least two holding magnets 31, which are each rotatably arranged in one of the magnet receptacles 22, the holding magnets 31 in adjacent magnet receptacles 22 being at a mutual magnet spacing and the magnet receptacles 22 being shaped such that the magnet spacing between holding magnets 31 in adjacent magnet receptacles 22 is unchangeable. A model building block system is also described which comprises at least two such building blocks.
