The invention relates to a ceramic molten metal filter which comprises at least a first and a second foam ceramic filter with a thickness in the range from 10 mm to 150 mm. The first and the second foam ceramic filter each have a recess which, starting from an outer surface of the foam ceramic filter that is perpendicular to the flow direction of the molten metal, extends into the foam ceramic filter up to a maximum of 60% of the thickness thereof.The outer surfaces of the first and second foam ceramic filters, of which the recess runs out, are connected to one another in such a way that the recesses of the first and the second foam ceramic filter form a cohesive cavity with a volume and a loose bed of a ceramic filtration aid is present in the cohesive cavity, the ceramic filtration aid being at most 80% of the volume of the connected cavity occupies.
