The present invention relates to a collapsible protective helmet, in particular for motorcyclists, with a helmet shell formed from an inner shell and an outer shell. The helmet shell comprises a first helmet shell segment and a second helmet shell segment, a locking element being arranged on the first or second helmet shell segment. In a locking position, the first and second helmet shell segments are connected to one another via the locking element. According to the invention, the locking element can be transferred reversibly between the locking position and a release position. The invention also relates to a method for disassembling a protective helmet which prevents the helmet shell segments from being accidentally released.
