A balancing system for balancing an internal combustion engine (10) is formed by two balancing members (24A, 24B) guided in rotation around two coplanar balancing axes (102A, 102B). Each balancing member (24A) comprises a body (25A) provided with one or more bearings (62, 64) for guiding the body (25A) in rotation, and at least a first balancing mass (26A) having a value M1 and a center of gravity located at a non-zero distance E1 from the balancing axis (102A), fixed in rotation with respect to the body (25A) around the balancing axis (102A) and guided with respect to to the body (25A) so that the distance D1 from the center of gravity of the first balancing mass (26A) to a reference plane (C) containing the center of gravity of the body (25A) is variable.
