A method makes it possible to determine a curve representative of an element of a road on which circulates at least one vehicle determining positions of points representative of this element in a frame of reference. This method comprises: - a first step (10) in which an initialization curve of clothoid type is chosen to represent this element as a function of these determined positions, - a second step (20) in which the distances between the determined positions of the points and this initialization curve, then a quantity representative of a difference between the initialization curve and the element as a function of these determined deviations, and - a third step (30) in which at least one determines a new clothoid curve to which a new quantity corresponding to the quantity determined in the second step corresponds.
