The present invention relates to a device for protecting a rib against the effects of swells, said device comprising a first dike said to be side by side, partially or totally submerged, said the first dike being arranged substantially parallel to the coast, the first dike and the coast defining a first basin. The device according to the invention furthermore comprises a second dike, said wide side, partially or totally submerged, said second dike being disposed substantially parallel to the first dike, the first and second dikes defining a second basin known as swell dissipation, the second dike being provided with evacuation channels for the emptying of the water contained in said offshore dissipation basin.
