The present invention relates to a vehicle data recovery system (11) containing at least one information relating to a first vehicle, the vehicle data being contained in a key (12) of the first vehicle, the key comprising an integrated transponder, the system (11) corresponding to an on-board system of a second vehicle, the system comprising a first computer (111) configured to receive a request to read vehicle data sent by a diagnostic tool (10) off the second vehicle; transmit, to the transponder, a request to read the data contained in the key (12); receive the data contained in the key; and transmit the data contained in the key to the diagnostic tool (10).
