A surface lining (100) for producing sound attenuation comprises a deformable sheet structure which is intended to be inserted between a base wall (101) capable of becoming locally concave or convex, and a flexible surface wall (102). The sheet structure has an orthotropy direction which is oriented perpendicular to said sheet structure, and which is associated with a lower shear strength value than its other orthotropy directions. The sheet structure can be made up of rigid segments (4, 5) which connect base pads (1) to be fixed on the base wall, or sliding surface pads (2) to be fixed on the surface wall. Some of the segments are connected to each other and to the surface studs by rotary links (R1, R2). Abstract figure: Figure 1a
