An electrode assembly for use in an electrochemical cell for producing ozone in water, comprising an elongate body with first and second opposing edge surfaces and first and second major surfaces between said opposing edge surfaces. The electrode has an elongate longitudinal axis. The widths of first and second body portions are measured perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and between the axis and the respective edge surfaces across the respective major surfaces. The second width is greater than the first. The electrode is preferably made from boron-doped diamond and preferably provided with at least one layer of electrically conductive material such as titanium or other metals. The electrochemical cell would also comprise a semi-permeable membrane that is preferably a fluoropolymer.
